This recording was inspired by my son, Kostantis, who I used to put on top of my piano and played to him so he would fall asleep. It worked every time. K (short for Kostantis) on top of the piano is the composition that bonds me with my son. It is the first work for him and from him out of many to come. I love seeing him grow. Reminds me of things I had forgotten over the years.
The music is a clever mix of Arabic, Jazz, Latin and Greek elements, a World-Jazz genre if you please. Traditional instruments like the oud, the violin and the Nay vs the piano the drums and the saxophone bring out all of the flavors that are mentioned above plus the great playing merges those flavors together. Great improvisations and music playing with the out most artistry is the basis for this work by Alekos.
Meliti Ensemble - Yunan
Yunan. The Arabic word for Greece. It's a title that means something; it wants to create a particular character; the coexistence and influence of milleniums of Greece and the Arab world? Maybe, but not only that. Greek musicians with western musical training created "Yunan". But, they love the Middle East and feel part of it. Therefore western melody and harmony come together with the Greek sound and the Arabic culture and sensitivity. After all, we live in the most Eastern country of the West and the most Western country of the East. We have to understand that this musical exchange will never stop because the Mediterranean Sea makes it possible...

Natassa Mousadi Quintet - Mediterranee
“Mediterranèe” is a concept album made up of six originals by the musician, vocalist, and composer Natassa Mousadi. More than a collection of songs, it is a sonic journey — a delicate interplay of Mediterranean idioms, personal memories, and contemporary reflections. A poetic dialogue with the present reality of the Mediterranean region, which gazes toward hope and uncovers beauty even in life’s most difficult and enigmatic moments. At its core lies a quiet but unshakable belief in the human spirit — in people's innate power to create, transform and grow, no matter the circumstances. The self-titled track, “Mediterranèe,” is the album’s first single. A song for the seekers of the Mediterranean seas, those who fill its waters in search of tomorrow...

Cinuçen Tanrıkorur’s Nihavend Saz Semaisi belongs to the refined instrumental tradition of Ottoman classical music. Written in the Nihavend makam, the composition balances melodic clarity with emotional restraint, allowing the internal rhythm of the form to unfold through phrasing rather than emphasis. In this interpretation, the piece begins as an intimate dialogue between oud and piano, with the oud carrying the melodic narrative and the piano expanding the harmonic space while preserving the modal character of the work. The texture remains transparent and focused on articulation and breath. Only in the final section do the clarinet and double bass enter, subtly altering the perspective and grounding the rhythmic cycle. Their presence reshapes the sound of the ensemble without disturbing the integrity of the composition. The approach does not seek to reinterpret the work, but to allow its structure to reveal itself gradually within a contemporary quartet setting.
